Africa Haguruka 2023 Rationale

As we celebrate our 24th edition, we invite you to join us from July 20th to 31st, 2023, as we explore this year's powerful theme:  Africa, Who Is Your Mentor? "I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go" (Isaiah 48:17).

The plight of Africa:
Africa, has been long-standing, as generations have been taught unprofitable ways, contrary to God's plan. The consequences of this misguided teaching are evident across the seven mountains of influence that shape our society.

Education

In many African countries, education remains a privilege rather than a basic right. The systems introduced to Africa focused on rote learning and lacked innovation and problem-solving skills. As a result, our continent still lags behind in vital fields such as medicine, technology, and agriculture. We must rethink and develop an education system that empowers the African child to unleash their innovative potential.

Family

The degradation of family values has been rampant, leading to gender-based violence, child abuse, high divorce rates, and the introduction of behaviors that contradict our traditional values just take an example of the LGBTQ. The African family, ordained by God, is the foundational institution of society. It is time to restore responsible parenting, protect our children, and instill values of belonging and responsibility.

Business

Africa is blessed with abundant natural resources, yet these resources are often extracted and exported in their raw form, benefiting other economies while leaving our own impoverished. Corrupt and unethical business practices, sponsored by foreign governments, have perpetuated this exploitation. We must strive for well-governed economies and businesses that utilize resources efficiently, fostering accountability and improving the well-being of our people.

Religion

The growth of religious groupings in Africa has been remarkable. However, many promote religious fundamentalism or perpetuate false doctrines and occultism. The true calling of the Church is to unite people with God, bringing His knowledge and setting them free to bear fruit across all spheres of influence.

Leadership

Dysfunctional governments, both neocolonial and dictatorial, have plagued Africa since the post-colonial era. This has led to a lack of justice, the rule of law, and patriotism. Unending strife, wars, and conflicts have caused mass migration and brain drain. Africa needs God-fearing leaders who will administer justice, promote the rule of law, and work for the betterment of all.

Media

Foreign-engineered media has often undermined Africa, perpetuating negative narratives and degrading our cultural values. Our media should provide educative, unifying, and inspiring messages that shape positive mindsets. By promoting homegrown content, we can rebrand Africa's image and spread the hope for a dignified continent.

Arts and Entertainment

This mountain has been commercialized by foreign firms, exploiting African talent and contributing to moral decadence, especially among the youth. However, the entertainment and sports industry possesses the potential to unify people, promote creativity, and develop talent. It is time to reclaim this sphere for the benefit of our continent.
